What is a success cycle?

What is a success cycle?

Newton's First Law of Motion states that a body at rest will remain at rest unless an outside force acts on it, and a body in motion at a constant velocity will remain in motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an outside force.

Life Tutors work with a client as the “outside force” mentioned above.  We want to move clients from a state of inertia or immobility onto what is called a “Success Cycle”

“[A] Success Cycle provides us with a model for the cycle of success in any area of life. It demonstrates why successful people tend to become more successful, … and why happy people become happier. There are four distinct stages to the Success Cycle:  Belief, Potential, Action, and Results.”

The notion of a success cycle in terms of personal development is relatively new.  Workplaces now operate in cycles of “continuous improvement”. But we use them too as a basis for continuous improvement toward greater life satisfaction.  Good outcomes breed higher belief, enhanced potential, the confidence to act, and then more good outcomes.  Guidance and support when things go awry allow for successfully pivoting and staying on the cycle.

Many clients come to us having had a lack of success.  Our work impacts a client’s whole life,  so we work with success cycles to move all parts of a client's life toward improvement.

Our work is based on goal setting and attack skills.  Every success cycle follows this course (even a successful pivot when things inevitably go awry):

  • Beliefs - what do we hold true about ourselves and our potential to improve and do well.

  • Potential - these are all the skills and knowledge you have that you can add to, perfect,  and use for your own benefit.

  • Actions - concrete steps toward a goal - task-oriented using skills and knowledge

  • Results - indicate room for improvement but also the success achieved in the prior cycle.

  • Repeat.  With higher self-belief and success each time.

By targeting small, measurable, actionable tasks, we maintain momentum, even when things don’t work out quite right.  Success is important to everybody.  It’s the reason we get up in the morning.  We are dedicated to teaching and supporting clients toward those successes every day.
